The Upper Clutha Rifle Range

Location and Description:

The Farm Creek Rifle Range is open every weekend (except for Lambing in October) between the hours of 10am and 5pm and on Wednesdays during 3 to 5pm (daylight savings from 3 to 7pm). The gate is kept locked except during nominated events and keys are available from the Range Officer or Secretary

The range is located off the Albert Town – Hawea Road opposite Rapid Number 580 approximately 4 km north of the Albert Town Bridge. Grid reference is NZ Topo 50 sheet CA12 995E 480N. Entry is through the locked farm gate on the western side of the road and follow the defined track.

The range has six targets/frames at 100 meters, one fixed target frame at 200 yards, and hinged target frames at 25 and 50 metres. There is a covered, enclosed shooting shed facility with six prone/bench rest options.

The range became operational in August 2013 following agreement between the Club and the lessee, Stacey Anderson, and is situated on freehold land owned by RH and PH Masfen of Auckland.

The range is available for the use of members of the Upper Clutha Branch and their invited guests. All users are to read and comply with the following conditions of use/ Farm Creek Range Standing orders below and as evidence of their agreement for compliance, must sign the Range register and pay a $2 fee per day of use or an annual fee as agreed.

Conditions of entry for all range users

FARM CREEK RANGE

Access to the Club’s Farm Creek Range is available to all financial Branch members on any weekend between the hours of 10am and 5pm and outside scheduled events.

The Range is also open on Wednesday afternoons between 2 and 5pm extending to 7pm during daylight saving.

The access gate is locked at all times unless it is in use and a key is available from the address below subject to your acceptance of the following terms and conditions.

  1. A Range Declaration form must be signed and completed.

  2. An Attendance Register at the range must be signed by all attending.

  3. Dogs are not allowed.

  4. Members must supply and fix their own targets to the target frame and remove them after use. Staples, not nails should be used. (Note that a small supply of targets and a stapler are normally available on site for your use but shouldn’t be relied upon)

  5. Warning flags must be erected in the locations specified on the Site Plan posted in the shooting platform. Erect the red flag stored in the tube at the gate to indicate live firing is in progress.

  6. Follow and ensure any other members of your party comply with the Safety Rule protocols as per Standing Orders Clause 8. A copy of these Orders is posted in the shooting platform building.

  7. One of the shooters in attendance must assume the responsibility of Range Safety Officer.

  8. Visitors may also shoot if they are under the direct control and supervision of any financial member and must sign the Register and pay a $5 attendance fee.

  9. Tidy the site on completion, remove rubbish and empty cartridge cases. Ensure shooting platform is stockproof. Take down warning flags.

  10. If another member of the Branch arrives and they offer to return the key for you, it is your duty to ensure they are a licenced firearms owner and member

  11. Lock gate, store away gate flag and return key to Secretary.

  12. Failure to comply with any of the above could result in you or a member of your party being personally liable, subject to costs and damages and trespassed from further use. Please report any damage or matters of concern to you as soon as practical.

Access to this Range is reliant on the continued goodwill of the owner. In the event a Range Officer is not in attendance you have an obligation to ensure that safety is not compromised, property is not damaged and that liability rests with you alone. Responsibility for your visitor rests with you.
